Comeglians is located in the centre of Val di Gorto, where the valley of the river Degano widens, abandoning its typical narrow and twisty formation. On the slopes or on the plains of the surrounding mountains, covered by forests of fir trees, the villages are all easily accessible, up to the highest among them, Tualis, from which you can enjoy a splendid view over the valley and the peaks of the Crostis and the Zoncolan.
For those who love cultural itineraries, you can start your visit from the Gothic church of St. Nicholas of Comeglians with its frescoes, then continue on to the two villages of Povolaro and Maranzanis which preserve the greatest concentration of buildings typical of the seventh and Carnic construction style. A walk along the picturesque "Cleva" route takes you from Comeglians to the San Giorgio parish church, built on a rocky outcrop. From here you can proceed to the sunny Calgaretto Riviera.
Moving on to the opposite side of the valley, you arrive at the Mieli and Tualis hamlets. Several walks may be enjoyed around Comeglians along the trails once used for religious celebrations and recovered today as tourist routes.
An event not to be missed in the Comeglians area is the traditional "lancio das cidulas", the closing feast in a long series of rites which is still practised here in January as a mating ritual.
